  1. If anyone needs a great plumber, I highly recommend Steve Fredericks, Baseline Plumbing, 470-1547.

  2. Thanks. We may call him. Fred Adler is a plumber who someone recommended to us but he doesn’t return calls. Strange.

Do you happen to know someone who repairs/replaces sliding glass doors?

    • Don’t know Fred Adler, but if someone isn’t returning calls, it generally means he is really busy and won’t be able to attend to your needs. Don’t know about sliding glass doors.

  3. FANTASTIC HOUSEKEEPER AVAILABLE (from Jack and Rita Purson)

We have used the same professional housekeeper for more than 20 years. She has always been absolutely perfect for us and had been cleaning our home on her days off from various “regular jobs” including a long stint at the Eldorado Hotel as a supervisor. The politics of difficult economic times in the hospitality industry have been a burden for her so she has recently decided to clean a limited number of private homes full-time and asked us to let our neighbors know. Carmen Mendoza is thorough, meticulous, reliable, extremely trustworthy, and personally a delightful lady. We recommend her highly. Please call her at 505-983-4162 while her schedule is still open.

  4. Does anyone know of people who will remove our dead pinon trees? Ideally folks who might want the wood as partial payment – thanks Jan Denton and John Andrews

  5. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HANDYMAN
I highly recommend Edik Manukyan 505 203-8690. His work is IMPECCABLE and his prices are extremely reasonable. He is licensed contractor painter, bonded and insured.
He has done everything in my house from hanging dry wall , re-stuccoing, refinishing our wood floors, painting / faux finish painting and repairing structural problems.

    • I spoke with Edik today. While he seemed very nice and quite reliable, he is in Albuquerque and was not willing to come to Santa Fe for our modest project.

  6. LOOKING TO RENT A GARAGE
I am looking to rent a single car space in a garage for a vintage car primarily for the winter months.

  7. We are brand new to Santa Fe and need to find a doctor GP, dentist, optometrist and a rheumatologist. Does anyone have a recommendation?
    Helen and Wayne Swinson

    • My dentist is outstanding and his dental hygienist is extremely thorough. Mark Migdalski DDS, 505-820-1010. Located at 5 Calle Medico, Suite D.

Please let him know Scott Meyer referred you…

  8. Received from Chuck Nicolette in response to Scott’s email about increased internet speed for Cybermesa customers:

I am told that Quest who had been offering maximum 1.5 Mbps is now offering 12 Mbps where I live at Avenida de Sevilla just west of Camino de Los Montoyas. Don’t remember the cost, but seemed reasonable.

  9. I just called Quest/CenturyLink to find out more about the 5 Year 12Mbps offering. You need to buy a package which includes long distance (US & Canada), Caller ID, Forward, Repeat, Wait, 3Way and VM for $45/mo and then the 12Mbps service for $19.95/mo. Adding estimated taxes I get about $82/mo total. If you already have a 1.5Mbps modem, no additional modem is needed.

Has anyone purchased this package? I’d like to know is the 12MBps real or just imaginary?

    Bernie van der Hoeven

  10. I just signed up for the faster-speed service from Qwest/CenturyLink. It’s actually cheaper than what I had been paying for the Premier plan (unlimited long distance, etc.). I did need to buy a new modem, though. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

  11. Regarding the Qwest/CenturyLink vs. CyberMesa discussion on internet speeds: It is completely dependent on WHERE you live.

Those of us at the Tano West end of the neighborhood are NOT able to get higher than 1.5 Mbps from Qwest/CenturyLink.

CyberMesa is your only choice if you want to get faster than 1.5 Mbps for the Tano West, Sundance, etc area. Right now, 3 Mbps is available to us. Those who wish to get 7 Mbps and live in the CyberMesa service area need to email me so I can add you to a list of people who want it.

If I can get a list of 20 households together to commit, CyberMesa will upgrade their equipment. Right now I only have about 6 names… so it’s not looking good unless I hear from more people.

  12. We have had the same housekeeper for 20+ years here in Santa Fe and she is still
looking for new clients in the Tano area. Carmen Mendoza is careful,
meticulous, thorough, and as honest as the day is long. Throughout her
career, she has regularly worked full time at various Santa Fe hotels, most
recently as a supervisor at the Eldorado Hotel. The downturn in the economy
has been difficult for this level of hotel to maintain its staff. As a
result of the recent frequent ups and downs, Carmen has decided to become
independent and build a small but regular portfolio of private home
clientele. If you are needing a reliable, trustworthy housekeeper, please
consider calling Carmen at (505) 983-4162.

  13. We’re looking for a handyman to deal with some repairs to our canales — caulking, filling bird pecking holes, things like that. Does anyone have a recommendation?

    Thanks,
    Joa

  14. We are looking for someone who has a pickup truck with a snow blade, who could plow our driveway this winter. Does anyone have a recommendation?

  15. I wish to hugely recommend Ralph Baker of AAA Allied Septic tank Service. 505 982 2242 – 1730 Camino Carlos Rey # 206 Santa Fe, NM 87507. to anyone needing septic tank work of any kind.

    A CAUTIONARY TALE:
After having my tank pumped for about 19 years I called Ralph’s company- within 15 seconds his serviceman informed me my septic tank access was in the wrong place, and I had only been having 1/2 my tank pumped for 19 years. Not one of the many other companies I have used over this time was smart enough to notice this, or bother to inform me – it was cheaper for them to only pump 1/2 the tank. This doubtless contributed to my leachfield failing. Ralph had a new one installed in 2 days, no mess or fuss, at much lower cost than I had been quoted in the past. Ralph is the person who certifies new septic operators in NM, and has written codes- he is very knowledgeable and easy to deal with. My highest recommendation.

  16. EXCELLENT CUSTOM WOODWORKER
I recommend James Dennison of Dennison Design 505 660-4504. He is reliable, quick , and does a very fine job. He is also very reasonably priced.

  17. Looking for a great, reliable independent Subaru mechanic in SF. Any recommendations?

    Jerri Udelson

  18. Hi gentle neighbors,

I’m in need of advice, suggestions, etc., etc., on choosing a new security company for my home. Any help would be appreciated.

    Eugene (988-3388)

    With thanks, in advance.

  19. Carmen Mendoza has worked for us for only about a month but we are very impressed. We took her on because of a note in this same blog last year from another Tano Road resident, which I add below:

“We have had the same housekeeper for 20+ years here in Santa Fe and she is still
looking for new clients in the Tano area.
As a
result of the recent frequent ups and downs, Carmen has decided to become
independent and build a small but regular portfolio of private home
clientele. If you are needing a reliable, trustworthy housekeeper, please
consider calling Carmen at (505) 983-4162.”
I can only add that Anne is very impressed with her and her work. The only trouble we have encountered is that she is currently on Jury duty and sometimes has to change the day she comes.
If you want more information please call us at 983-3116.

  20. Alternative Garbage Service: MCT, an Albuquerque based company that has been servicing portions of Las Campanas for some time has been servicing residents in Sundance, Canterbury, Heartstone, San Acacia and Tano West since July 1. Although they don’t offer recycling pick up at present, their service is equal to or better than Waste Managements in every other respect and their charge is about half of WM’s.

If interested, contact MCT at 800 876 8651 for more info.

    • I switched to MCT and have been very happy with their service — at 1/3 the cost of Waste Management. Our pickup day is Monday and they even picked up on Columbus Day!

    • Highly recommended to me, I only used once, but was happy with the quality of work:
      Seams Unusual
      (505) 983-8494
      130 W Palace Ave
Drawback: One has to make an appointment to go in, and it’s a pain to park there.

  21. I just had a small wood-working project done by Loren Bienvenu. He re-modelled a headboard for me. He does excellent work at a very reasonable price:

  22. We would like to recommend our house cleaner, Pena Mendez.

She is the best cleaner we have ever had, seriously thorough, speaks enough
English for her duties, a US citizen, and charges $20 per hour.
    Her contact info is:
    505-204-0272 Cell
    505-471-0161 Home
She is available alternate Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Pena has a wonderful personality and is super efficient. She is a single mom with two kids. Her summer clients have left leaving her free on these days.

    Doretha Moore and Ralph Stuart
