Our spring Trash Bash will be Saturday, April 24, 2021. This year, we won’t be able to coordinate our date with Keep Santa Fe Beautiful, who will have their Great American Cleanup on Saturday, April 17, 2021.

Montoyas Spur of TRA Trail Completed
In the spring TRA neighbors completed, the “Montoyas Spur” to the Tano Road trail/ walking path. The spur starts between the intersection of Tano and Montoyas and the group mailboxes nearby. At that time, the spur ended at Camino Don Patron, providing a safe and enjoyable walking space for dog walkers, exercise buffs, and mountain bikes.
Recently, the group completed an extension of the trail, on the west side of Montoyas (opposite side of the street from the spur). In the future, the group will extend the walking path even further, to meet up with the La Tierra Trails.
Everyone can help build this pathway by using it. This year native plants will try to pop back up on the spur, so walking the path repeatedly will discourage them.

Ferrellgas Agreement 2020-2021

TRA awarded “Neighborhood of the Year” by Keep Santa Fe Beautiful
KEEP SANTA FE BEAUTIFUL AWARD
October 11, 2019 at Quail Run
The Tano Road Association was awarded “Neighborhood of the Year” by the local organization Keep Santa Fe Beautiful. Our very own Howard Gershon, a Board member and President Emeritus, accepted the award on behalf of the TRA. Due to Howard’s diligence and true desire and commitment to “keep Santa Fe beautiful” with yearly Trash Bashes (since 2002), the TRA was recognized and presented with this prestigious award.
It was a very exciting evening, with Mayor Alan Webber and several City Councilors in attendance. Howard presented a brief history of Tano Road, and how our association was developed and became formalized, which is quite impressive! Development along Tano Road started in the late 1940’s. Then in the 1960’s, residents formed an unofficial neighborhood group which they named Tano Road Association. This association was formalized in 1978 – 40 years ago!
Another very interesting fact which Howard shared about our area is that around 1921, some of the “Cinco Pintores” (five painters who became the foundation of the Santa Fe art movement) built in this neighborhood. One of this group, Will Shuster, was responsible for building and burning the first-ever Zozobra! These are fascinating tidbits of information which Howard discovered in his research of Tano Road. Thank you, Howard!
Keep Santa Fe Beautiful also presented a check for $150.00 to the Tano Road Association, which in turn was donated back as our token of appreciation for all they do.
Helen Swinson Given Rich Higgins Award
Several years ago, the TRA Board of Directors renamed the volunteer service award in honor of Rich Higgins, a former member and president of the Board until his untimely death in 2014.
The Rich Higgins Service Award, is a way to acknowledge someone who has provided outstanding service to the Tano Road neighborhood. This year, the Board voted to honor Helen Swinson. Art Jensen, President of the Board, presented the award to her at the Neighborhood Nosh on June 16.

Home Burglaries on the Rise
Yesterday, May 30th, multiple residents in La Tierra encountered a person driving into their driveways in the afternoon. Silver American sedan, Nevada license plate, fast-talking youngish guy with no plausible story. Please let Howard (security@tanoroad.org) know if you see him.
There was a recent article of interest in the New Mexican:

Are you interested in joining neighbors to hire a private security firm?
Because of slow responses time from the sheriff’s office, I contacted Chavez Security, which has a quick and armed response, and they would be happy to arrange group rates if there are people in our neighborhood interested in their services.
